While driving back home we want peace and fresh air if that turns into noise then it would be annoying after a long day at work we need some time with peace while driving.

Identifying that noise is important because it might lead to some serious damage to the car. there are a lot of sources that contribute to the noise in the car.

Did you soundproof your entire car or have you replaced your tires with soundproof tires? Then it’s time to replace the tires with soundproof tires because they are the primary contributors to noise.

In this guide, I have come up with a  solution how to reduce tire noise. so to get the complete solution on this and what are the factors that are causing noise stick with me throughout the guide.

Causes Of Tire Noise

There are many sources that are contributing to tire noise and if the tire makes a noise that could be difficult to maintain it might squeak and make ticking and humming noises at the same time. That will be the fault of the broken bearing. Let’s discuss some of the causes of the tire noise.

Tire Brand

The noisy tire is related to the tire feature it includes the tire brand, size of the tire the design and the rubber manufacturer is using. There are some tires that are made with hard rubber that tend to be noisy.

Soft tires are best to bet the noise but of course not every vehicle has that because a large truck will have a hard rubber to drive on the harsh roads. So in that case you have to soundproof the tires for peace.

If you have a car then you can opt to replace the existing tires with soundproof tires because it’s better late than never they are absolute peace and long-lasting when it comes to reducing tire noise.

Wheel Bearings

If the tire is not making squeaky noise it’s more of a rattle noise than the issue is with the wheel bearings sometimes it is difficult to identify wheel bearing even if you know where the noise is coming.

You can check it by rotating the when if the noise is from the front tire then rotate it back but if the noise is from the front tire then the wheel bearings are faulty.

You can jack up the car and check manually by rotating it forward and backward if the noise is from the front end then the wheel bearings are the issue and we need to work on that.

Tread Of The Tire

There are a few things that cause the tread wear when we drive our car the tire heat up and when we stop they cool down that’s the reason the rubber loses flexibility and hardens as said before that hardened rubber tends to make more noise.

All tires start to lose tread after several years. Therefore if the tread is lost in the tire you need to replace the tire with the new one because they start making noise.

Many manufacturers incorporate tread indicators into the design of the tire this has a bit of rubber sitting inside the grooves of the tires once the tread started wearing off you need to get new tires.

Air Pressure

Sometimes if the pressure is less the tire will sag and start producing loud noise so you need to check the air pressure in the tire and if it’s less then make it to the normal level.

On the other hand, if the tire has more air pressure it will be hardened and hard tires are likely to make more noise to you need to check the pressure if it’s more than making it normal.

Sometimes you don’t notice the air pressure we think the problem might be due to other parts of the tire but actually, it will be due to the air pressure in the tire.

Tire Fitting

Fitting of the wheel is also important because if it’s not fit properly or the tread and other parts are lost then it tends to make louder noise on the road.

The tire loses grip on the road if the fitting is not perfect you need to check the tire fitting frequently or when you check the engine of the car. because the loose wheel or the low-quality rubber is likely to make louder noise and lose grip.

All you need to do is jack up your car and check whether the fitting is perfect or not if you don’t know how to do this then better get it done with a mechanic.

8 Ways To Reduce Tire Noise

Now that we have discussed the causes of tire noise let’s get into how to get rid of this noise there are two ways you can soundproof the tire or you can simply soundproof the car from inside.

In this guide, I will be discussing how to reduce tire noise with some of the effective ways.

1. Seal The Doors

Doors and windows are real culprits in transmitting the noise in the car no matter if it’s the car or home windows and doors should be the primary step for soundproofing. So if you feel that noise is passing and the air is hitting the sides that is where the noise is passing.

Solving this issue is pretty simple you need to get a rubber seal trim protector which is also known as an edge guard strip that will seal the doors and windows and block out noise.

The process of applying this is pretty simple you just need to get that and you can also use self-adhesive and weather stripping tape for blocking from inside.

This will also cut down the wind noise you hear inside of your cabin and makes it soundproof. Place the strip on the edges and trim that accordingly to the size of the door.

2. Sound Deadening Car Door

You need to install the sound deadening material on the car door you can make the soundproof car door. But I’m pretty partial to this because it requires investment and effort.

You need to open up the door and install sound deadening material in the door the step is repeated for all doors and not everyone is willing to do this so if you want the other ways then you can skip this part of the guide.

In my guide on the sound deadening car doors, I have explained how to install sound deadening material in the car door but this process is time-consuming and it’s challenging for someone who never worked on their car.

So If you want to install a soundproof door then better to get professionals involved in this because they will do the work in no time and soundproofing will be perfect and block out noise.

3. Soundproof car Floor

 If the car is soundproof if you are still receiving noise from the tires then you need to work on the car floor. Probably you can say that if the noise is from the car floor if you have soundproof the entire car but left the floor.

There are several ways to soundproof the car floor and some of them include removing the seats and carpeting the complete car after that you should clean up and apply sound deadening spray or mats, MLV, or just rubber on top of that you might add a thicker layer of some foam pads or thicker carpeting.

If you want to skip the sound deadening mats then just add some rugs and carpets on the floor by removing the mats and putting back the rubber mats. The thicker the layer the better noise it will block.

4. Install New Wheel Liner

The worst sound tires produce is not even included in my list. This kind of noise will be produced when you drive on the road with a lot of stray pebbles and that hits your tires hard.

When that hits the tires hard the metal from the wheels is visible which can damage your car. you just need to overlay the metal to reduce noise and if you want to install the liner from scratch then you can do it with MLV.

Installing the wheel liner is pretty simple and easy all you need to do is just take off your mud flap clean the area slide the liner into the space and put back the mud liner.

5. Check The Car Parts

Now let’s find a solution for all of the problems you need to check the air pressure and make sure it is within the range listed you can perform this with the help of an air pressure gauge and if the tires are deflated then use your air compressor.

If you don’t know the range of the air pressure then on the driver side there will be a sticker that will show the range of air pressure. On the other hand, the air pressure could be more due to the weather but it’s not a much bigger problem.

If the air pressure is too high then gets high in the summer what you need to do is let some air before you drive. You need to perform the monthly checkup with the air pressure and after the 6000-8000 miles of drive, you should rotate your tire.

6. Check Wheel Bearings

If you receive the noise and think that it has something to do with the wheel bearing then visit the nearest mechanic who will find out if the issue is with the bearing.

If the issue is with the wheel bearing they will take off the tire and brake cover to get to the bearing at this point they will disconnect the bearing and replace it with the new bearing.

When everything is done and a new bearing is installed they will put back everything to be used and replacing the wheel bearing is one of the tough tasks so better do it with the help of a mechanic.

7. Get A Set Of Soundproof Tires

If the tires are loud when you get them and if the tread is worn off then you need to invest in the new pair of tires and this time make sure you get a pair of quiet tires.

There are some of the things you need to keep in mind while getting the quiet pair of tires- softer rubber, relatively shallow tread, and smaller sizes for blocking out noise.

8. Drive At Slow Speed

When you drive faster tires make more noise due to the larger quantity of air circulating around the tread. If you’re a high-speed driver then you will be getting loud noise than the normal noise of the tire.

That’s probably because of your driving habits. When you’re driving on harsh roads if you drive at high speed then the tires tend to make considerably more noise.

You may reduce the noise by driving slowly especially on the harsh roads. By doing this noise will be reduced and you can drive with peace and concentrate on the road.

There are many causes of loud tire noise and many solutions exist for this problem once you figure out the cause of the noise and work on that you can sit back and enjoy your drive.

The sound will completely disappear once you have implemented this method and if it doesn’t then you can invest in some of the soundproof materials which are effective in blocking out noise.

If you don’t find any changes in the noise blocking then you can get a new set of tires and make sure they are soundproof because they have soundproof properties which will block out noise effectively.
